Why Getting Old Can Be Scary For Some People

old coupleAll of us are going to age – it’s inevitable. You might think that the greatest concerning of aging is to stay physically able and healthy. While those are certainly important, you may be surprised to learn that the both men and women actually worry about their appearance as they age as much as they do their physical well-being and their health. It seems as we age we once again begin to get self-conscious like we did as teens.

In your youth, we were concerned about zits, and being scrawny, as we age, we are concerned about wrinkles, age spots, loss of muscle tone, and fat in our mid section.

What Does Aging Mean in Our Society?

The prevalent image in our society of aging includes impaired mobility, frailty, cognitive dysfunction, pain, death, and an aging appearance. Slowly the public’s perception is changing as we see 60+ rock stars, like the Rolling Stones, still rocking, or politicians looking well and healthy into their 70s. The amount of money spent on advertisements that aim at the aging population is incredible. The focus is to sell the aging population including baby boomers products that will make them look, feel, and act younger.

When Does Aging Start?

Advances in medical technology have us living much longer. In the USA, more than 34 million people are 65+ and 4 million are 85+. In fact, the age bracket of 65-75 is now referred to as ‘young-old.’ However, the signs of aging start much earlier. By the time we are in our mid 40’s most of us are noticing fine lines and wrinkles, things are beginning to sag, and it seems harder to keep and maintain lean muscle mass, but much easier to develop fat, especially in the mid section. By the time we are in our 40’s most of us are paying attention to the changes and beginning to fret about the toll aging is taking on us.

Now by the time were 70 or so you would think it wouldn’t really matter to us that much any longer. Actually, the opposite occurs. We begin to worry even more about our appearance, fretting that our body doesn’t resemble our younger mind.

Age, Appearance and Job Search

You might think worrying about appearance as you age is vane and a self-confidence boost, but actually, it affects many different aspects of our life. The truth is appearance affects:

  • One’s ability to get a job –today it is especially easy for employers to see what recruits look like long before interviewing, and some of the best candidates may be eliminated because of a judgment made over looks.
  • Aging employment opportunities – As we age, and we no longer have that ‘fresh young face,’ we are often overlooked for promotions or for fresh hiring for someone younger, yet our knowledge and expertise is superior to someone younger.
  • Job promotions – Catherine Hakim, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Studies, London, says that one should intentionally use beauty as a tool for getting ahead at work.
  • Wages – A study by Catherine Hakim, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre For Policy Studies, London, indicates attractive people earn anywhere from 7-13% more.

Ways to Stay Looking Our Best as We Age

The market is full of companies catering to the aging population – lotions, potions, surgical treatments, non-surgical treatments, and the list goes on. A person can spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars in an effort to look their best and keep aging at bay. Botox for wrinkles, expensive creams that keep the wrinkles away only as long as you use them, and then there are all the products that don’t work. There are tummy tucks, and facelifts, and liposuction, and the list goes on.

But what if there was a way to keep your youthfulness that was cost effective, natural, and worked. HGH supplements are a dietary supplement that helps the body to increase its production of HGH. Because as we age the body produces less HGH we see the signs of aging, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Sagging skin
  • Age spots
  • Loss of lean muscle
  • Increase in fat especially in the mid section
  • Decreased libido
  • Decreased concentration

HGH has many benefits, but it is especially known for its anti aging qualities, which translates to us not only looking better but also feeling better. When we feel better, we elude self-confidence, which affects our appearance positively.

HGH Studies Relating to Aging
