How Skinny Guys Can Build Muscle

Last Updated on by James Jackson

If you are one of those guys that’s been battling skinny from your high school days, and still battle it as an adult – you’re going to want to read this.

If you were born skinny, chances are you don’t have the ability genetically to bulk up like an NFL lineman, but that doesn’t mean you can’t build muscle, and get that ripped look. So let’s look at how you can begin to build muscle and no longer be “that skinny guy.”

#1 Supplements

Biceps workoutGenerally you can get most of the nutrients you need from your diet if you eat right. But when you are trying to put on weight and you are exercising thereby stripping your body of the fuel from food, you are going to have to help your body out with supplements.

Protein powder is one way of giving your body those extra calories, however most people get gut distress when they use protein powders. Choosing one that has no artificial sweeteners, is made without corn or soy, and had digestive enzymes and probiotics added will help to reduce the gut rot.

Creatine, Carnitine, Citrulline, and Beta Alnanine are all supplements that can help the skinny guy gain more muscle. Use as directed. If you are unsure it’s a good idea to talk to a trainer.

#2 HGH or Human Growth Hormone Supplements

Don’t confuse HGH supplements with HGH injections. Unless there is a medical condition that results in a severe depletion of HGH in the body, an HGH supplement is adequate and requires no prescription as it is a dietary supplement. HGH has many positive benefits but we’re focusing on how it can help the skinny guy or you have an ectomorph body type.

An HGH supplement will help your body to produce lean muscle mass and reduce your body fat. Ironically even skinny guys as they age often have some ‘junk in the trunk’ and an HGH supplement can help melt this fat away. Using an HGH supplement when combined with the other tips discussed here will help your body to naturally produce more HGH.

#3 Get at Least 8 Hours of Sleep

When you sleep your body repairs itself. It’s also when it produces the most HGH. If you sleep poorly you will have elevated cortisol levels, which is also where ‘belly fat,’ is believed to be linked to. A good nights sleep means your body will produce more HGH and that in turn will help to build more muscle mass.

#4 Don’t Overtrain

A common train of thought is that more is better. Actually when you are skinny and trying to bulk up more can actually have negative effects. Too much gym time means that your body will go into what is called a catabolic state and that will lead to loss not gain. Instead, train intensely for 45 minutes. This will increase your testosterone levels, which means you will recover faster from your workout. This type of workout is better for building muscle, besides your workout shouldn’t take a huge chunk of your day, otherwise you are more likely to avoid going.

#5 Eat Often

Strength training burns a lot of carbohydrates, so you should never do a muscle building workout without having ingested at least 300 to 600 carb calories 2 to 3 hours before your workout. Foods like yams, sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal, and rice are all good choices for healthy carbs. If you eat the same type of meal after your workout you will put on muscle faster, because after your workout your body absorbs the sugars a lot faster.

Always make healthy food choices for the best overall health value, and as we already mentioned you can take a protein supplement to increase your calories.

#6 Eat Fat at the Right Time

Eating fats when you get up in the morning and just before you go to bed increases testosterone levels. Have a hard boiled egg before you go to bed or have some walnuts or brazil nuts. Remember we are talking about good fats here. Your body needs these fats to help you build muscle.

Skinny guys have to work harder to gain a few pounds and build muscle. Your nutrition, workouts, and supplements like HGH are all key to your overall success. To find out more on HGH supplements go here!
